Problem

A Top 5 global law firm was awarded a sizable matter for the International Trade Commission (ITC). The challenge was that the majority of the case documents (over 2.5 terabytes of data) would exist in various encoding schemes commonly used to store multi-byte languages -- in this case, Japanese. Japanese characters can be rendered through one of many encoding types, including UTF-8, EUC-JP, Shift-JIS or ISO-2022-JP. In addition to handling these encoding types, the courts imposed a short time-frame for producing the first set of documents. Based on past experience and understanding the complexity of processing foreign language documents, the firm chose Ignited to assist in culling and perform native processing on the data for online review.

Solution

Ignited quickly built and tested a computing environment by ensuring all language packs, protocols and fonts were installed, as well as researching and setting operating system and program-level settings to allow seamless processing of English and Japanese encoding types simultaneously. To ensure that each dialect was properly captured, Ignited employed a specialized consultant with prior experience for validation. The environment was then replicated to a dedicated pool of machines to handle the quickly growing data set.
